LI'L ANNE AND HOT CAYENNE
"HOW YOU GONNA DO THAT?"
Independent - 2006
A review by Paule Pachter
December 24, 2006
Li'l Anne and Hot Cayenne are one of the Northeast's most sought after
Zydeco acts.
Of course, there are many reasons for their popularity, which is also
beginning to extend across the country as a result of their invitations
to perform at some of the more popular Zydeco venues in Louisiana and
to work with such Zydeco notables as Roy Carrier and Sean Ardoin.
Li'l Anne and Hot Cayenne have a unique ability to cover some
standard Zydeco material with exceptional flare, while at the same time
delivering original material that's fresh and deeply rooted in
traditional Creole-Zydeco style.
On their second CD, the band has recorded some impressive covers
including "Hamilton's Club" (Keith Frank), "Whiskey Drinkin' Man" (Roy
Carrier), and "Johnny Billy Goat" (Boozoo Chavis).
But, their original tracks are equally if not more impressive resulting
in Li'l Anne and Hot Cayenne having this ability to step out of the
cover band mold with this CD. Among the exceptional original material
featured is "Make My Mind" (with Sean Ardoin) and "Late for Leaving."
"How You Gonna Do That" is a wonderful follow-up recording from one of
the country's leading Zydeco bands. Their talents and passion for the
music makes Li'l Anne and Hot Cayenne uniquely qualified to grab a
four-pepper rating from us for this great CD, which can be purchased
